Description
- In elementary and secondary, the use of gymnasiums, swimming pools, change rooms, fitness/weight rooms are permitted with distancing.
- General Routines: Establish routines/procedures for:
- training/practices: designate entrance and exit for students within the school to access the facility, in order to control traffic flow; and
- competitions: communicate entrance and exit procedures for students from other schools in order to manage traffic flow and to minimize contact within the school.
- Indoors: Follow your school procedures for opening and closing/securing windows and doors (when safe and appropriate to do so) to increase the air flow.
- Follow your school board procedures regarding the use of fans in gymnasiums/fitness/weight rooms.
- Modify activities and instructional strategies used to align with the space available.
- Ventilation: In cases when there is a stand-alone high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter unit in the activity area make sure it does not pose a hazard (if it does, make sure it is well marked and clearly communicated with students).
- Fitness/Weight Room: Follow your school board procedures for cleaning and disinfecting the equipment (for example, prior to and after classes the equipment should be scheduled to be disinfected).
- Consider the following physical distancing strategies:
- Limiting the number of students in the room.
- Moving the equipment or restricting the use of some equipment to increase the distance between fitness equipment.
- Using adjacent facilities (for example, gymnasium, for additional fitness stations or another physical activity).
- Change Rooms: Clearly communicate change room procedures and expectations to students.
- When different cohorts interact in change rooms, masking and as much as possible, distancing should be maintained between cohorts. The following procedures may be used: blocking off areas in the changeroom and stalls in the washroom.
