Description
- In addition to the level of supervision required by the curricular (health and physical education) activity/sport pages (elementary, secondary) of the Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education (OPASSE), it is important to monitor and remind students to:
- maintain appropriate physical distancing prior to and after activities (for example, change room, arrival/departure);
- adhere to change room and facility procedures (for example, entrance, exit);
- sanitize hands before and after using equipment; and
- refrain from group celebrations during activities (for example, handshakes, high fives, fist bumps).
Health and Physical Education Teachers:
- follow school board personal protective equipment procedures during curricular (health and physical education) classes.
- communicate with students and minimize the need to shout/project. Consider using:
- alternative hand operated (electronic or mechanical) whistles.
- portable microphones/voice amplifiers.
- check that all certificaitons required for activities are up to date and have not expired (for example, instructor qualifications for Outdoor Education – Canoeing)
